A Vancouver woman remains in critical condition 10 days after the vehicle crash that injured her, killed a 7-year-old girl and hurt two other pedestrians.
Chelina Alsteen, 30, was one of four people who were walking along 112th Avenue on Halloween night when a Ford Mustang drove onto the sidewalk and struck the group. She remains in the intensive care unit at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.
Alsteen was trick-or-treating with Annie Arnold, 32, Arnold’s 7-year-old daughter, Cadence Boyer, and a 6-year-old girl who has not been identified. All four were rushed to area hospitals after the crash.
Cadence Boyer spent two days on life support before she died. Her mother, Arnold, was discharged from Legacy Emanuel Medical Center on Nov. 4. The 6-year-old girl, whose parents have asked that her name not be released, was discharged from Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland on Friday.
Prosecutors said that the man who hit the group, Duane Abbott, was driving under the influence of marijuana. He faces a charge of vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
