Union, Columbia River win district girls swimming titles

Union won the Class 4A district girls swimming team championship, scoring 275.5 points to defeat Mountain View’s 211 points on Saturday at Kelso.

The top two swimmers in each event of the 4A meet went to state, except for the 100-yard backstroke. The swimmers were so fast that three managed state qualifying times.

Anna Panebianco of Camas won the event in 1 minutes, 0.11 seconds. Marissa Young of Union was second at 1:00.13, and Livi Cox of Union made it to state with a time of 1:00.34.

Colleen Woods of Heritage set a meet record in the 100 butterfly, coming in at 58.20 seconds.

The Union 400 relay team set a meet record, too, finishing at 3:48.64.

In the 3A meet, Columbia River more than doubled its closest competitor, winning the team title with 465 points.

Kara Hoftsker of Columbia River won the 200 free, 500 free, and was part of two winning relay teams.

Teammate Makena Wilcox won the 50 free, the 100 free, also was part of two winning relay teams.

Prairie’s Keiko Inouye won the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke to qualify for state.

• At the 2A district meet at Evergreen State College in Olympia, the top three swimmers in each event advanced to state. Of the area swimmers, Hockinson’s Monica Krubeck won the 200 individual medley and was also third in the 100 free. Anna Carson of Hockinson was third in the 500 free. Leigh Meyer-Beyer of Hudson’s Bay was second in the 100 back.
