The Columbia River Chieftains just missed out on a bi-district volleyball championship, and the Prairie Falcons had their best day of the season to qualify for the Class 3A state tournament.

Auburn Riverside rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the championship match to beat Columbia River in the 3A bi-district tournament Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High School. Scores were: 23-25, 24-26, 25-9, 26-24, 15-8.

Columbia River had already clinched a berth to the state tournament, which begins Friday in Lacey.

Prairie, meanwhile, had to win three matches Saturday in order to advance. The Falcons did that, beating Lincoln, Kennedy Catholic, and then Auburn Mountainview. The Falcons won nine of the 10 sets they played Saturday.

Columbia River topped Capital 3-1 in the bi-district semifinals.

• In the 2A district tournament, Ridgefield made it to the championship match and advanced to the state tournament. The Spudders beat R.A. Long in four sets, then fell to Tumwater in the title match in four sets.

Woodland, meanwhile, lost in the semifinals to Tumwater but bounced back to defeat W.F. West and then Mark Morris to claim the final berth to state from this tournament.

The Class 2A state tournament is in Lakewood.

• In the 1A district, King’s Way Christian fell in the championship match to Kalama, but is still going to state. La Center won an elimination match earlier in the day to make it to state before losing in the third-place match. The 1A state tournament is in Yakima.
