The Skamania County One Prevention Alliance was awarded $125,000 to benefit drug and alcohol prevention programs in the Stevenson-Carson School District.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in cooperation with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, awarded the grant.

The grant, a 2014 Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant, is renewable for a five-year term, with the availability of an addition five-year term.

The Skamania County coalition aims at increasing the health and well-being of youth, parents and community of the school district through drug and alcohol education, intervention and outreach.

To accomplish this mission, the group educates alcohol retailers and encourages increased enforcement aimed at underage drinking and those providing alcohol to minors.

For more information on the organization, contact Chief David Waymire or Prevention Specialist Susie Strom at 509-427-9490.
