Washougal — From the roots to the leaves, second-graders at Hathaway Elementary School got a close-up look at plant life during recent botany lessons that bridged science and art. Debbie Kramer’s second-grade class studied botany not only by reading about it in books, but by drawing pictures of a variety of plants on display in their classroom, from tomato to foxglove to dahlia plants. “The classroom had a wonderful garden feel for a few days, and students now have a new appreciation for the beauty and complexity of plants,” Kramer wrote.
