A girl hit by a car while trick-or-treating Friday in east Vancouver has died, according to staff at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

Cadence Boyer, 7, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after she and three others were struck by a Ford Mustang that had traveled onto the sidewalk along Northeast 112th Avenue.

Chelina Alsten, 30, and a 6-year-old girl also were critically injured. Alsten remained in critical condition Sunday, according to hospital staff at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. The parents of the 6-year-old girl asked that her name not be released. Boyer’s mother, Annie Arnold, 32, also was injured in the crash. She was listed in fair condition Saturday at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

The crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m. near Northeast 112th Avenue and 39th Street. Speed and driver impairment are believed to be factors in the crash, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The driver, Duane C. Abbott, 47, also was hospitalized with less serious injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of four counts of vehicular assault and was expected to be booked into the Clark County Jail after his release from the hospital, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Cadence Boyer’s death means the charges Abbott faces will likely change, Kapp said.
