• For those looking for a calmer transition into November, the Classical Mandolin Society will be offering a free public concert as part of its 29th annual mandolin convention. Tonight’s concert will feature 125 musicians performing as one large orchestra. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Jantzen Beach, 909 N. Hayden Island Drive, Portland. Looking ahead, the 35th annual Seattle International Comedy Competition will make a stop in Vancouver on the road to crowning a comedic king or queen. The competition features 33 comedians facing off at various venues around the state. • Is it Christmas already? As part of the First Friday festivities, the Vancouver Rotary Foundation will preview its 12 decorated Christmas trees ahead of the Festival of Trees, Nov. 28-30.
