Emergency crews on the scene of a serious crash on Northeast 112th Avenue almost became victims themselves early Saturday morning when a car drove through traffic barricades protecting the scene, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
The car narrowly missed officers from the VPD Traffic Unit who were processing the scene of an earlier crash on Northeast 112th Avenue near Northeast 39th Street that injured four trick-or-treaters and a driver. The vehicle also nearly struck an officer stationed in a vehicle at the barricade and a tow truck operator, a VPD bulletin said.
No injures were reported.
An officer at the scene got into his patrol vehicle and tried to stop the car, but the driver fled the scene westbound on state Highway 500 to northbound Interstate 205 where the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed in to the right side guard rail at Padden Parkway, the bulletin said.
“The subject was resistive when officers contacted him and officers used a Taser to ultimately take him into custody,” the bulletin said.
The driver, identified as Timothy E. Woodward, 29, of Portland, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, with other charges possible, and was booked into the Clark County Jail.
