Weather Eye: Get ready for a gorgeous week that will be just right

Are you smiling? Not yet? Then look out the window this afternoon and let it happen. This near-perfect weather will be with us for a while. Varying amounts of morning clouds — and guaranteed sunny afternoons. Nice northwest breezes and highs a few degrees above average.

It just does not get any better than this. Not too hot and not too cold. As in “The Story of the Three Bears,” it is JUST right! No matter how down in the dumps you may be, the weather is good for increasing the mood. Go out for a walk or just sit and watch the grass grow. Either way you get vitamin D naturally.

I wish I had more to talk about weather-wise, but the forecast is a repeat each day this week. And that can be a good thing. One doesn’t have to think about what to wear or how to send the kids out the door. It will be an easy week.

I don’t often have the opportunity to start the first day of the month writing my column, but here we are: the first day of the meteorological summer. Spring has gone into the climate books, and we begin a new chapter and a new season.

We are still adding minutes of daylight to our skies, and soon twilight will be lingering to near 10 p.m.

Officially for the city of Vancouver, May was drier and warmer than normal. Rainfall totaled 2.68 inches, 0.27 inch above average. The average mean temperature was 60.1 degrees, two degrees above average. We had a high of 92 on May 14 and a low of 39 degrees on May 7 to bookmark the highs and lows.

Enjoy your week and keep smiling!
