Nominees for high school spring sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending May 24. Voting will conclude at 8 p.m. Thursday with results published in Friday’s Columbian.

AKARI BABA, PRAIRIE TENNIS: Baba won three straight-set victories, including a 6-2, 6-0 win over Angelina Polina of Fort Vancouver in the final to win the bi-district singles title.

COLLEEN DRISCOLL, MOUNTAIN VIEW SOFTBALL: Driscoll threw a one-hit shutout in the Thunder’s semifinal win over Columbia River in the bi-district tournament, picked up two more wins and collected six hits, including a home run and five RBI.

ALEXA EFRAIMSON, CAMAS GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD: Efraimson set a state record in the 1,600 and won the 800 meters at the 4A bi-district meet in Kent.

MARCUS GAYLOR, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS TRACK AND FIELD: Gaylor won the 200 meters and was edged out by 0.01 seconds in the 100 meters at the 3A bi-district meet in Sumner.

CARTER JOHNSON, SKYVIEW SOCCER: Johnson assisted on two goals in the win over Wenatchee then scored Skyview’s first goal in the win over Curtis, sending Skyview to the state semifinals.
