Memorial Day turned out quite pleasant with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon after some brief early morning showers. It was a great day weather-wise to remember our fallen military veterans and others.
Flowers set out on grave sites will last a few days as clouds and showers and cool weather will increase today and Wednesday. Highs will be in the 60s for the most part. There will be an increased chance for showers and thunderstorms locally this week, with the showers lingering over the Coast Range and Cascades a day or two longer.
Wednesday will see the coldest air aloft and, yes, if showers are heavy enough, wet snow could fall at Cascade pass levels. The upper ski areas will get a few inches of snow.
The Northern Cascades around Mount Baker are forecast to receive 1-2 feet of snow through Thursday. Amazing, isn’t it? We need all we can get even this late in the season. .
Remember I mentioned in Sunday’s column that I would work on turning our warm, sunny days around for the weekends? I think it will come to pass this weekend, with mostly sunny skies and highs of 75-80 degrees. Welcome June!
After writing Sunday’s column asking how you liked Saturday’s weather, I had several comments from folks that really enjoy the fresh air and occasional showers. Highs near 70 degrees are of course perfect with me.
Ridgefield weather watcher Ellen Smart summed it up this way: “I’d be happy with today’s weather over and over and over again. But I know the rain will be retreating and we will be dry, dry, dry. … Whether we like it or not, weather happens. If our collective will could change it; it would change.”
