COUGAR — Big Creek Falls viewpoint in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest is closed indefinitely due to danger from falling cedar trees.
The viewpoint is on Lewis River road No. 90, a few miles southwest of Lower Falls Recreation Area. A short trail leads to a view of a large waterfall on Big Creek.
Diana Perez, acting public information officer for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, said old cedar trees have been falling steadily during the past few years.
An assessment last fall determined the hazard to the public is too great, she said. The sign marking the location has been removed and the parking lot entrances are blocked.
Perez said there are no plans to reopen the viewpoint.
