Battle Ground, Camas and Evergreen school districts are among 80 districts statewide awarded almost $7 million from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction to help them install emergency response systems. These new systems will decrease the time it takes for police and other first responders to arrive and react to school incidents.

Battle Ground Public Schools received $79,200 for 18 projects; Camas School District received $64,495 for 10 projects and Evergreen Public Schools received $112,500 for 15 projects.

The grants were the result of Senate Bill 5197 that encourages school districts to develop new emergency response systems using evolving technology. Districts had until March 17 to apply.

OSPI coordinated with the school safety advisory committee to develop grant criteria. A subgroup of that committee reviewed applications and chose grant recipients. OSPI will work with districts to install the emergency response systems funded by the grants.
