The community will honor local service members who have given their lives in a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday around the Clark County Veterans War Memorial at the Vancouver Barracks. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can gain a deeper understanding of military life throughout the 150 years at the site during the Soldiers’ Bivouac. Bivouac is a French term for a temporary encampment. Costumed Civil War infantry and cavalry interpreters will be on hand to answer questions and give weapon demonstrations.

2. Seniors have all the fun
Va Va Voom presents its variety show “We’re Goin’ Places.” Bored with their days of bingo, a group of seniors decide to hit the road and tour the United States, from Hawaii to New York. Songs such as “Route 66” and “The Yellow Rose of Texas” are mixed into comic sketches that include guest stand-up comedian Nona Bingham.

3. A day on the lake
Pack a picnic lunch and cheer on the teams during Paddle for Life, as dragon boats will race across Vancouver Lake to raise money and awareness for the disabled veterans water sports program. Teams of 10 to 20 or more members will compete. Groups of all athletic abilities will compete.
