Habitat Bank will receive the Port of Vancouver’s Environmental Stewardship Award for its efforts to preserve natural habitat in Vancouver and throughout the Northwest.
The port said it chose Habitat Bank for its leadership in developing mitigation banks in Washington. Habitat Bank’s oversight of the Columbia River Wetland Mitigation Bank has been a model in the preservation and restoration of natural resources from both an ecological and economic perspective, the port said.
Habitat Bank was established in 2001. It has worked with the Washington Department of Ecology, the EPA and the Seattle Corps of Engineers to successfully permit the Snohomish Basin Mitigation Bank in Snohomish County, the Columbia River Wetland Mitigation Bank with the Port of Vancouver, and the East Fork Lewis Wetland Mitigation Bank in Clark County.
The Port of Vancouver’s Board of Commissioners will present the award at its regular meeting Tuesday.
