Volunteers are needed to serve as hosts this summer at Cold Creek and Merrill Lake campgrounds in Southwest Washington.
The campgrounds are managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources. Unless hosts are found, the campgrounds might be closed.
The unpaid hosts are asked to do general campground maintenance and be available to help campers. Hosts must pass a Washington State Patrol criminal background check.
Volunteers must be willing to stay a minimum of one month, but year-long opportunities are available.
Cold Creek is 10 miles east of Battle Ground in the Yacolt Burn State Forest. The camp has six sites, three picnic sites, a day-use area and links to more than 35 miles of non-motorized trails.
At Cold Creek, the host site has a concrete pad that can accommodate a 24-foot recreational vehicle. It has access to septic and power hookups.
Merrill Lake is north of Cougar in Cowlitz County and open from May through September. The camp has 11 tent sites, two picnic areas and a primitive boat ramp.
