WASHOUGAL — Caryn Plinski said she plans to resign from the City Council this month after she and her family purchased a new home outside city limits.

Plinski delivered a letter of resignation to the city Monday night, saying she plans to move into the new house soon and May 31 will be her last day in office. Living outside city limits means she has no choice but to give up her elective position.

“The last 2 1/2 years has been a wonderful experience and I’m grateful that I have had the opportunity to serve the community,” her letter read. “Washougal is in great hands with the staff, council and mayor.”

Plinski moved to Washougal in 2005 and ran for Position 2 on the Council in 2011. She beat out 19-year council veteran Rodney Morris by just eight votes in a race that forced a recount.

Before joining the council, Plinski spent her time as a homemaker and mother of three. This year, she serves on the city’s finance, parks, community development and lodging tax advisory committees.

Plinski’s term was set to expire at the end of 2015. Now, her last meeting will be Tuesday.

The city already is accepting applications to fill the rest of her term. The position will open once again for the 2015 election, when voters will pick a new councilor to serve through 2019.

The councilors haven’t nailed down any dates to interview candidates and vote on Plinski’s replacement, but that will likely happen in late June.

Application packets are available at Washougal City Hall, 1701 C St., and online at www.cityofwashougal.us. Completed applications should be returned by 5 p.m. June 18 to Clerk Jennifer Forsberg’s office at City Hall.
