Battle Ground — Chase Getch, an 8-year-old boy with dwarfism, was sworn in as Battle Ground’s honorary Police Chief last month at a fundraiser to support the county’s Chief for a Day Junior Deputy Program, a local version of a statewide program. The ceremony at Main Event East in Vancouver brought in more than $2,500 for the program that aims to champion children with life-threatening or chronic medical conditions. Clark County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Shane Gardner said police departments in Vancouver, Camas and La Center have also said they would like to honor a local child just as Battle Ground did on April 18. County kids who have been given honorary law enforcement titles will take part in a motorcade on Sept. 20 at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office West Precinct. That day will also feature an open house.
