Ridgefield scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match to put Hockinson on its heels and claim the district title and a the No. 1 seed to state with a 3-0 win Thursday in the Class 2A district boys soccer tournament.
Jared Williams scored in the seventh minute off an assist from Dalton Ries, and Nate Miller followed two minutes later with a goal off an assist from Miller.
The Spudders added a breakaway goal in the second half by Miller, assisted by Williams, shortly after a Hockinson shot hit the post.
Justin Stay had three saves in goal for Ridgefield to record the shutout.
4A bi-district: Rogers 1, Union 0 — The Titans’ season came to a close with the loss to Rogers of Puyallup.
Rogers scored in the 55th minute of the match.
3A bi-district: Mountain View 9, Decatur 0 — Jared Berg and Will Warne scored two goals each as Mountain View rolled in a Class 3A bi-district playoff game at Kiggins Bowl.
Mountain View will face Wilson or Kennedy at noon Saturday in Burien for the right to advance to the 3A state tournament.
Kody Ulrich had a goal and an assist for the Thunder, and David Garncia added three assists.
3A bi-district: Columbia River 2, Bonney Lake 1, PKs — The Chieftains withstood a tying goal from Bonney Lake in stoppage and won a penalty-kick shootout.
The win clinched a berth in the 3A state tournament for River. Ryan Hallquist, Lennox Mandel, Leo Thom and Bryan McCarthy converted PK attempts for River, which will play Saturday for the top seed in the bi-district.
1A District: Seton Catholic 2, La Center 1 — The Cougars are advancing to state for the second time after holding off La Center in a match played at Kalama.
Will Noce-Sheldon scored unassisted in the first half, and John Polem added a penalty kick in the second half for Seton Catholic.
La Center scored its goal with about 10 minutes to play in the match.
Seton will face Hoquiam in a seeding match on Saturday. La Center plays White Salmon with the winner advancing to state.
Softball
Prairie wins two — Prairie had a pair of thrilling wins in the Class 3A district tournament, one to clinch a bi-district berth and one to advance to the district title game.
Jamie Phares hit a solo home run in the fifth inning that would prove to be the difference in a 3-2 win over Mountain View in the district semifinal. Phares also prevented Josie Newton from hitting a home run with an outfield catch.
In the elimination game, Prairie beat Kelso 6-5 on Bailee Blechschmidt’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth.
Kelso scored once in the top of the ninth in the international tiebreaker. Nicole O’Haver’s bunt single got the Prairie rally going in the bottom of the ninth ahead of Blechschmidt’s double.
Prairie will face Columbia River at 4 p.m. Friday in Kelso for the district title.
