STATE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TOURNAMENT WINNERS
Camas High School’s Science Olympiad team competed at the State Science Olympiad Tournament on April 12 at Eastern Washington University and won first place statewide for the fourth consecutive year. The tournament featured 25 science-related events and Camas took home 18 medals. The team is coached by Camas High School math teacher Matthew Chase. Team members and winning entries are:Ninth grade: Rachel Duquette, first place in disease detectives; Melody Holler; Erik Johnson; Jason Kim; Bilal Manzer, first place in hydrogeology; Chemay Shola, first place in hydrogeology; Phebus Tsai.10th grade: Kurtis Shibata.11th grade: Jon Bartlett; Jonathan Ho, first place in boomilever and mission possible; Levi Holscher, first place in compound machines; Kevin Hsu, first place in compound machines; Erica Lee, first place in technical problem-solving; Isabel Lee, first place in technical problem-solving; Arya Pathak; Reese Pathak, first place in disease detectives; Sophie Shoemaker; Yun Teng, first place in material science.12th grade: Parker Liebe; Yushuan Peng, first place in material science.The team members will represent their school, community and state at the national tournament, May 16-17 in Orlando, Fla.
CONGRESS-BUNDESTAG YOUTH EXCHANGE SCHOLARSHIPS
Sarah Bashir, a student at Camas High School, and Nicholas McMillan of Columbia River High School have been awarded scholarships to study in Germany for the 2014-15 academic year, representing the U.S. as youth ambassadors.
FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA COMPETITION
Students from Evergreen Public Schools participated at the FBLA Washington state competition recently, with Union High’s Austin Jang winning first place and William Tadlock winning third place in their respective categories. From Heritage High School, Madison Snaric won two Top 5 awards. All three will compete at the National FBLA Conference at the end of June in Nashville, Tenn.
SCHOLASTIC ART AND WRITING COMPETITION
Charity Young, a student at Union High School, was selected as a national gold medalist for painting, and national silver medalist for writing in a recent competition.
