Sheriff candidates forum planned

The National Women’s Coalition Against Violence & Exploitation and UniteWomen.org will host a public candidate forum for Clark County Sheriff at 7 p.m. May 22 at the YWCA Clark County community room, 3609 Main St. Wayne Havrelly from KGW-TV will be the moderator.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday to file. So far, the announced candidates are Republican Chuck Atkins, nonpartisan Shane Gardner, Republican John Graser and independent Ed Owens.

The top two finishers in the August primary advance to the November election. The November winner will succeed six-term Republican Sheriff Garry Lucas, who is retiring at the end of his term.
