WASHINGTON — Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, was honored Wednesday as a 2014 Polio Eradication Champion by Rotary International. Herrera Beutler was joined by four other lawmakers whom the Rotary recognized as taking a leadership role to wipe out polio.

The congresswoman worked with Rotary International to raise awareness and used her seat on the Appropriations Committee to help fulfill funding requests to eradicate polio, according to Herrera Beutler’s spokeswoman. In 1995, Rotary established the Polio Eradication Champion Award to recognize heads of state, health agency leaders and others who have contributed to creating a “polio-free world,” according to a news release.
