Three Clark County companies were among 18 entities that received environmental penalties of at least $1,000 during the first three months of 2014, according to the state Department of Ecology.
Vancouver-based Electro Inc. was fined $2,000 in January for failing to meet stormwater permit requirements and not submitting required reports, according to the ecology department. Clark County Excavating of Ridgefield was fined $2,000 in March for ongoing violations of permit requirements including discharging muddy water into a tributary of Whipple Creek, failing to implement “best management practices” and not submitting required reports, officials said.
Platinum Energy of Vancouver was penalized $1,900 in January for failing to report and investigate suspected petroleum product releases, among other violations, according to the ecology department.
Fines of $1,000 or more totaled $355,650 across the state from January through March, according to the department. By far the largest fine went to Hanford Site waste management facilities in Richland, which will pay $261,000 for violating dangerous waste regulations as part of a settlement announced in January.
