The number of drivers who exchanged out-of-town licenses for new ones in Clark County grew 24.3 percent in April compared to the same month last year, a sign of local economic growth shown in data issued by the Washington Department of Licensing on Wednesday.
There were 1,341 driver’s licenses exchanged for local ones last month, up from 1,079 licenses in April 2013. So far this year, Clark County has welcomed an influx of 5,238 newcomers, a 13.2 percent increase from 4,629 licenses exchanged during the same four months in 2013. Of the 1,341 drivers taking out local licenses in April, 688 were from Oregon, 164 from California and 36 from Idaho, the licensing department said.
Real estate brokers say job transfers are starting to bring clients in from out of town. The county is home to several large company relocations, such as PeaceHealth, Integra and Fisher Investments. A few others — including the 600-employee Banfield Pet Hospital — plan moves to Vancouver in 2015.
