Tyler Armstrong of Prairie baseball was voted The Columbian’s high school spring sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending May 3.

Armstrong collected 38 percent of the 912 votes cast by fans to beat out Morgan Spieth of Union softball, who had 34 percent.

Armstrong threw a four-hit shutout against Hudson’s Bay and went 5 for 10 from the plate with two doubles and two RBI as the Falcons went 4-0 last week.

The other nominees were Alexa Efraimson of Camas track and field, Marcus Gaylor of Columbia River track and field, and Taylor Hartley of Battle Ground golf.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
