A Portland man was sent to the hospital Tuesday after his convertible clipped another car and crashed on Interstate 5 south at the exit to state Highway 502.
Witnesses estimated the Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible was driving at least 100 mph as it went down the freeway, Washington State Patrol Trooper Will Finn said. At about 5:20 p.m., the convertible made an unsafe lane change at Milepost 12 and clipped the front end of a Toyota Prius, according to WSP.
The convertible swerved onto the right shoulder at the exit to Battle Ground and rolled onto its top. Several bystanders helped get the convertible upright so that medical personnel could get driver Luis J. Guzman, 38, out of the car. Guzman was sent by ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. He was released Tuesday night.
The Prius’ driver, Rick D. Zeeb, 61, of Albany, Ore., was not injured.
Charges for Guzman are pending, according to WSP. Finn said Guzman is suspected of being impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash.
