Two high school rugby teams from Clark County wrapped up regular-season championships with wins on Saturday.
Union, a first-year program, won the Rugby Oregon Varsity Premiership title. The Clark County Warriors Red team won the Club Championship Division championship.
Both teams enter the state semifinals on May 10 as top seeds. All Oregon Rugby state playoff matches will be played at Delta Park in north Portland, with semifinal matches on May 10 and championship matches on May 17.
In the Club Championship Division for teams with players from more than one high school, the Clark County Warriors Red team completed an unbeaten regular season with a 63-5 win over the Valley Rams from McMinnville.
Scoring five-point tries for the Warriors were: Michael DiGenova (three), Justin Straup (two), Blake Ingram (two), Jessie Kiesser (two) and Matt Walser and Luc LeVasseur. Kicking conversions were Izzaak Heredia (three) and Jessie Kiesser.
Clark County Red will face West Linn at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in the state championship semifinal round.
North Clackamas 54, Clark County Black 19 — Scoring tries for the Warriors second team were: Marquis Mitchell (two) and Ryan Gingrich. Brendan Geigenmiller kicked two conversions.
Clark County Black faces Columbia County at noon on Saturday in the second-level state semifinals.
Varsity Premiership
The first-year Union team finished league play at 7-1 to win the division for teams that draw all their players from one high school. Union clinched the title with a win over Canby on May 3. Details from that match were not available.
The top seed in the top division for the state playoffs, Union will play at 3 p.m. May 10 against Lakeridge. Third-seeded Prairie will face second-seed Reynolds in the other cup semifinal.
Against Canby, eight players scored tries in a 80-10 win, though the official score was 45-10 due to the mercy rule. Union kicker Avery Longrie had nine points from penalties and 16 points from conversions.
Prairie 41, Lincoln 10 — The Wolf Pack clinched the No. 3 seed by beating Lincoln, outscoring the Portland team 24-0 in the second half. Bailey Cookson and Ronnie Evenden scored 2 tries apiece and Adam Ayala, Reid Maas and Eric Creamer also had tries for Prairie. Man of the match Jacob George kicked three successful penalties. Prairie plays at 3 p.m. Saturday in the state semifinals.
Battle Ground 35, Oregon City 0 — Battle Ground finished in a three-team tie with Prairie and Lakeridge with a 4-2-2 league record, but the Bulls are the No. 5 team and will play in the second-tier of the state playoffs. Battle Ground will face Lincoln at 9 a.m. May 10 in a second-tier semifinal.

Girls rugby
Battle Ground 29, Canby 10 — The Lady Pack (5-2-1) finished fourth in the high school girls division and will face top-seed Grant of Portland at 9 a.m. on May 10 at Delta Park in the state semifinals.
