The Washougal School District, along with the Washougal Old Timers, are making plans to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of Washougal High School’s first commencement in 1914.
“It is a historic milestone and we want to take this opportunity to reconnect with alumni and share in our community’s pride of our high school,” said Dawn Tarzian, Washougal School District superintendent.
To help commemorate the occasion, all former Washougal students and staff from the far and near past are being invited to share their favorite memories via a survey.
To share a favorite story, visit www.surveymonkey.com/s/BGNGB69. Hard copies of the survey forms are available at WHS, 1201 39th St., and at the Washougal School District office, 4855 Evergreen Way.
The anecdotoes will be gathered into a document to serve as a lasting historic record for the community and school. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 18.
“We have a very enthusiastic and loyal group of alumni,” said Pam Clark, Washougal Old Timers organizer. “This survey will help capture their history and preserve the stories for generations to come.”
Clark, WHS Class of 1964, manages a large database of alumni and helps organize a cruise-in car show and potluck picnic each summer.
Plans are also being made to bring the community, alumni and current students together for a celebration Thursday, April 24, at WHS, from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be displays, memorabilia such as yearbooks, uniforms, programs and letterman jackets, a photo slide show and remarks from past graduates.
“This event will be a great way to celebrate the achievements of our grads and our school,” Tarzian said.
