About 5,000 electric utility customers east of Fisher’s Landing experienced a brief power outage Monday morning after a car crashed into a transformer, Clark Public Utilities spokeswoman Erica Erland said.
The single-vehicle crash was reported about 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Southeast 192nd Avenue and 41st Drive. The same vehicle may have hit a barrier on state Highway 14 just prior to the collision, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. The name of the driver was not released.
Fisher’s Landing and Columbia Valley elementary schools were affected by the outage, along with Crestline Elementary School’s temporary campus at the former Hewlett-Packard site. Power was restored to nearly all of the customers about an hour later.
Erland said that area of Vancouver rarely sees outages because the power distribution lines are underground.
