Skyview student in court on threat allegations

A 15-year-old Skyview High School boy appeared in Clark County Juvenile Court this morning on allegations he threatened to obtain an assault rifle and shoot students and security officers.

Nicholas L. Reynolds, who is a ninth-grader at the school, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on a charge of felony harassment related to the incident. He was arrested Thursday at the school after allegedly telling some other students about his plan.

Court Commissioner Jennifer Snider said she will not release Reynolds today out of concern for the public’s safety. She will reconsider his release at Monday’s hearing.

According to court records, Reynolds told another student that he was going to “‘go up on the balcony during lunch and shoot people. Security first, so I won’t be bothered.'”

The student said the threats started about two weeks ago and had escalated to a point where “he thinks Nick is serious and may go through with it.”

There’s no evidence Reynolds obtained a firearm or had access to one, according to Clark County sheriff’s deputies who investigated.

He allegedly showed classmates a website where he planned to buy the assault rifle.

He later told investigators that he was joking and that his words were taken out of context, according to court records.

Snider appointed Vancouver attorney Gayle Ihringer to defend Reynolds. She said today that Reynolds should be released to his parents’ home, where his mother is able to monitor him 24 hours a day.

Skyview High School is in the Vancouver School District. Most of its students come from the Felida and Salmon Creek areas.
