After skipping last year’s event, the U.S. Navy announced this week that it will participate in the traditional Fleet Week at the Portland Rose Festival. The Navy plans to send two ships up the Columbia River for the 2014 celebration.
Representatives from the Royal Canadian Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as historically refurbished military crafts, also will be at the Portland seawall along Waterfront Park June 4-8, according to a Rose Festival news release.
Last year, the Navy and Coast Guard canceled their ship visits because of the federal budget cuts known as sequestration.
