Vancouver Wildlife League to hear about game farm
The Vancouver Wildlife League will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.
Chris White, manager of the agency’s Bob Oke Game Farm in Centralia, will describe changes in operations at the pheasant-rearing facility.
The public is welcome to attend.
Vandalism happening at Multnomah Falls’ Benson Bridge
DODSON, Ore. — The historic Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls will be repaired and available to the public by Memorial Day.
The bridge is closed due to damage sustained in a rock fall in early January.
The U.S. Forest Service also says vandalism is occurring at the site in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
Fencing closing off the bridge has been damaged repeatedly, allowing illegal access into the closure area. Signs informing visitors about the closure at both Multnomah Falls and Wahkeena trailhead have been moved and damaged repeatedly.
Another closure of the bridge will be needed in the fall to complete repairs. Constructed in 1915, the concrete arched bridge is above lower Multnomah Falls.
Multi-season hunting permit deadline Monday
OLYMPIA — Applications are due by Monday to apply for deer and elk multi-season hunting permits in Washington.
In mid-April, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife will draw randomly names for 8,500 multiple-season deer permits and 1,000 multiple-season elk permits.
Winners of the drawing will be eligible to buy a special tag allowing them to hunt in archery, muzzleloader and modern firearms general seasons for deer and elk in 2014. Winners who buy the multiple-season elk tag by Aug. 31 may hunt in the general elk seasons on both sides of the Cascade Mountains.
The tags only can be used during general seasons and in game units that are open during a modern firearms, archery or muzzleloader general season. Hunters are limited to applying only once for each species and are limited to killing one deer or elk.
Hunters may buy the multiple-season permit applications at an authorized dealer or by calling 866-246-9453. The permit application costs $7.10 for residents and $110.50 for non-residents.
A 2014 hunting license is not required to submit an application, but winners of the drawing must buy one before purchasing a multiple-season tag.
Clinic to discuss kokanee fishing
PORTLAND — A free program on kokanee fishing will begin at 6:30 p.m. April 3 at Fishermen’s Marine and Outdoor, 1120 N. Hayden Meadows Drive.
Gary Miralles of Shasta Tackle will be the guest speaker.
Shane Magnuson, owner of Upper Columbia Guide Service, will explain spring chinook fishing tactics for the mouth of Wind River and Drano Lake in Skamania County beginning at 6:30 p.m. on April 9.
Catching northern pikeminnow for a reward will be covered beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 30 at the store. Eric Winther, pikeminnow sport reward program manager, and Tim Histand, a top 10 angler, will be the featured speakers.
Chinook seminar scheduled Saturday
A free seminar on spring chinook salmon fishing will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Northwest Sporting Goods, 212 N.E. 164th Ave., Suite 4.
Guide Pro Escobedo of Team VIP Outdoors will be the guest speaker.
