Roundup: King’s Way lacrosse wins league opener

Evan Ramirez scored five goals and Brian Prigmore had a big game as King’s Way beat visiting Southridge 13-3 on Friday to open the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association season.

Prigmore had two goals, six assists and fielded 14 ground balls, and Nick Ankeny scored three goals.

On Wednesday, King’s Way lost a non-league match to Tigard, Ore., 12-11. Michael Johnson scored five goals in the loss.

The Knights next play on March 31, when Glencoe visits King’s Way.

Camas improves to 3-1 — Matt Welinski had four goals and two assists on Friday as the Camas beat Rex Putnam 13-2 in a non-league game in Milwaukie, Ore. Austin Garwood scored three goals and Chad Menor and Bradley Stanchfield two apiece.

Camas is 3-1 in non-conference play, with wins over Forest Grove and Hood River and a 13-9 loss to Wilson of Portland.

Camas visits Forest Grove on Tuesday, then opens league play by hosting King’s Way on April 2.

Union splits — Union split a pair of non-league games last week, opening the season with an 11-2 win at Century of Hillsboro, Ore, then losing 7-6 at Aloha, Ore.

In the win, Trey Chambers, Gunnar Drell and Andrew Harrah scored three goals apiece. In the loss, Jack Lamey had two goals and fielded 15 ground balls.

Union plays its first conference game on Friday at 7 p.m. at Southridge of Kennewick, then on Saturday plays a non-league match at Hermiston, Ore.

Evergreen girls — The Evergreen Lacrosse Club Black Cats on Monday won for the second time in three matches this season, defeating visiting Spanaway Lake 19-4 at McKenzie Stadium. Madeline McKinnon had seven goals and two assists for ELC, and Alyssa Mehan scored four goals.

On March 15, the Black Cats beat Curtis of Tacoma 13-1. McKinnon led the ELC attack with four goals, while Grace Davis and Lisa Peterson each scored three. Goalie Molly Johnson stopped four of five shots in her varsity debut. On Saturday, ELC lost 13-6 to Lake Tapps in Sumner.
