Timbers at Colorado
Kickoff: 3 p.m. Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colo.
TV: Root Sports, cable Channel 34.
Radio: 750 AM.
Timbers (0-0-2): After leading MLS in ties last season, the Timbers are right back on top in the draw department after opening the season with two ties at home, thanks to late-game goals from Gaston Fernandez in each game. This is Portland’s first away game of the season. The Timbers have never won at Colorado. Last season they played to a 2-2 draw in Colorado and won both matches in Portland.
Rapids (0-0-1): Colorado opened the season a week ago, earning an away draw against the New York Red Bulls with a second-half penalty kick. That was the MLS coaching debut for Pablo Mastroeni, who played 16 seasons in MLS. Mastroeni was named Rapids head coach on March 8 after serving in the coaching role during preseason. With starting goalkeeper Clint Irwin recovering from injury, John Berner made his MLS debut against New York and made one save. Colorado finished fifth in the Western Conference last season, losing the one-game playoff at Seattle.
