Drivers who used studded tires on their vehicles this winter have until midnight March 31 to remove them, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Studded tires are legal from Nov. 1 to March 31 in Washington. The state can extend that period into October or April depending on weather conditions. But with no extreme weather expected for the rest of the month, and temperatures well above freezing in most places, officials have no plans for an extension this year, according to WSDOT.
Crews will continue to watch forecasts, particularly at higher elevations, and treat roadways if necessary, according to the agency.
Driving with studded tires past the deadline could result in a $124 ticket.
