Columbia River spring walleye fishing tips offered March 27
PORTLAND — The Oregon Bass and Panfish Club will meet at 7 p.m. March 27 at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E. 106th Ave.
A program on Columbia River spring walleye fishing tips and techniques is scheduled.
The public is welcome.
Columbia Gorge summer hikes, outings under way
Dozens of hikes and other outings will be offered through mid-summer in the annual Friends of the Columbia Gorge spring-summer program.
Outings open to the public began today with 4-mile hike with 800 feet of elevation gain in the Catherine Creek area of western Klickitat County.
A few of the other trips will include Swale Canyon, Weldon Wagon Road, Herman Creek, Camas Lily Fields, Ferry Springs on the Deschutes River, Klickitat trail, Panther Creek Experimental Forest, Table Mountain and Silver Star Mountain.

Spring skiing festival slated Saturday at Mount Hood Skibowl
GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — The 13th annual Snow Beach Festival will be Saturday at Mount Hood Skibowl.
A pond-skimming contest is scheduled from noon to 2:30 p.m. Clearing the 80-foot pond is not a requirement to win and dramatic crashes and costumes help score points.
A hot dog eating contest is planned from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and a hot wing eating contest from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
The slopes will be open for skiing and snowboard riding from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and cosmic tubing from 6 to 11 p.m.
A fireworks display is on tap at 8 p.m.
Registration for the events will be the the customer service desk.
On March 29, the Red Bull Schlittentag is scheduled.Forty three-person teams will race homemade sleds down a hill and over a jump.
