Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., is visiting Chile this week as part of a congressional delegation. Her goal is to strengthen Washington’s ties for exports and innovation, she said in a news release.
Chile is Washington’s largest trading partner in South America, with $1.3 billion in Washington exports going to Chile in 2013. The visit to South America is led by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa. The delegation also includes Sen. Bernard Sanders, I-Vt., and Reps. George Miller, D-Calif., Jared Huffman, D-Calif., and Rush Holt, D-N.J. The group is scheduled to meet with newly elected Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Chilean congressional members and business and tourism leaders.
