Rice makes dean’s list

Zachary M. Rice of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Boston University for the fall semester.

Each school and college at Boston University has its own criterion for the dean’s list, but students generally must earn a 3.5 GPA or better, or be in the top 30 percent of their class, as well as take a full course load as a full-time student.

The school is located in Boston, Mass.

Younkin makes dean’s list

Abbie Younkin of Camas was named to the fall term dean’s list at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

To qualify, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA in at least four course credits for the term.

Camtown poster contest accepting entries

Camas Parks and Recreation is accepting entries for the Camtown Youth Festival poster contest.

Entries must be submitted by March 28.

Camtown is a free, youth-focused event that includes a variety of games, activities, arts and crafts, entertainment, a kids’ flea market and more.

This year’s event will be held at Crown Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14.

Youth of all ages are eligible to participate in the contest.

The poster design must be drawn on white, 8.5” by 11” paper. Any art medium may be used. Date, time and location should not be included.

Poster designs can be dropped off at the Lacamas Lake Lodge, 227 N.E. Lake Road, or mailed to 616 N.E. Fourth Ave. Camas, WA 98607, Attn: CYF Poster Contest.

Sixty students attend Red Cross leadership event

The Southwest Washington Red Cross Youth Council shared its collective knowledge on leadership with their high school peers during the seventh-annual leadership development conference held March 1 and 2 at Camas High School.

In addition to team building exercises, Youth Council members led seminars on a number of topics including the power of positivity, selfless leadership, making good choices in the face of peer pressure, and understanding one’s personality traits.

During the second day, 20 students were trained in CPR/AED and another 31 were certified for First Aid.

The 60 students attending the two-day conference represented Prairie, Mountain View, Columbia River, VSAA, Union, Battle Ground, Fort Vancouver, Skyview, Hudson’s Bay, and Camas high schools.
