Surrounded by more than 100 family and friends, Ken Davis celebrated his 100th birthday on March 1 at MacArthur Boulevard Christian Church where he is a charter member.

He enjoyed his party, his daughter said, but died six days later. A service will be at 11 a.m. March 12 at MacArthur Boulevard Christian Church.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1914, and moved to Vancouver from Kansas in December 1937.

Davis served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He worked for the Port of Vancouver as a switch engineer for 30 years before retiring in 1976. After retiring, he returned to fill in for people on vacation.

Davis liked remodeling or building things, and from 1980 to 2007, he was a handyman for two child care centers, the Gingerbread House and Jack and Jill House. He also loved growing blackberries and grapes and liked to share the produce with friends.

He is survived by two children, Nancy Hochstetler and Merle Davis, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
