Spartans Futbol Club will face SO Samba FC of Hood River, Ore., on Saturday in the first round of a U.S. Open Cup qualification soccer tournament.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Buckman Field in Northeast Portland and is free for spectators.

Spartans Futbol is a Vancouver-based team that will play this season in the Northwest Division of the National Premier Soccer League. The NPSL and the Premier Development League are the two fourth-division men’s leagues in the U.S. Soccer Federation pyramid.

Saturday’s match is the first of three that Spartans must win to represent the NPSL West Region in the U.S. Open Cup tournament.

Spartans FC opens its NPSL league schedule on April 5.

Spartans Futbol Club this week announced that Jorge’s Tequila Factory in Vancouver will be a sponsor of the team in 2014.
