Try This: ‘Spring Awakening’ rocks Clark

Set in 19th century Germany, “Spring Awakening” follows the trials and tribulations of the teens Melchior, Wendla, Moritz and Ilse as they struggle with growing up in a society of repression and rigid expectations. Clark College Theatre presents this award-winning Broadway rock musical by Steven Sater with music by Duncan Sheik. The production is recommend for mature audiences due to language and adult themes.

When: 2 and 7:30 p.m. today.

2. Improv explorations

Laugh the night away with the Magenta Improv Theater ensemble. They will present their family-friendly comedy show, done in the style of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The group takes suggestions from the audience to create skits on the fly.

3. Irish spring

Toe-tapping tunes to lonely ballads crying for love and country, the traditional Irish band Story Road convenes only twice a year for spring and autumn tours. The ensemble features vocalist Colleen Raney, accordionist Johnny B. Connolly, fiddler John Weed and guitarist Stuart Mason. The quartet will present a mix of traditional Celtic, bluegrass and Americana songs.

4. Towering heights of Lego

Bricks Cascade is a convention for Lego fans of all ages, as hundreds of builders share their creations, from 2-D mosaics to 3-D sculptures on a variety of scales. Themes for the creations range from castles and battle scenes to steampunk and mecha.

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.

Where: Oregon Convention Center, 777 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland.

Admission: $8, $28 for a family of four, free for ages 3 and younger.

5. Adventures of ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’

Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell) is the kind of a canine that owns his own time machine. He often embarks on historic adventures with his boy, Sherman (Max Charles). Sherman tries to impress Penny (Ariel Winter) by taking a ride in the time machine without permission, but he accidentally disrupts world history. It’s up to Mr. Peabody and Sherman to fix the past, present and future. “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” is rated PG.
