West Hazel Dell — The budding artists at Lake Shore Elementary School won a first prize of $1,000 at the 21st annual Winter Wonderland Children’s Art Contest. All participating schools submitted an original 4-by-8-foot mural to the contest. Murals were displayed in the annual drive-though Winter Wonderland holiday light show at Portland International Raceway in Portland. Thousands of visitors voted for their top three favorites. The Lake Shore mural, created by students under the guidance of teacher Erin Stromme, took first place. On Feb. 25, Stromme and her students accepted a check from Winter Wonderland; the money will pay for art supplies and tools for the West Hazel Dell school.
