Weather Eye: Weekend may begin rainy, but warm, dry weather is on its way

We managed to squeeze out another fine day Wednesday, at least until the evening hours. The thermometer topped out at 80 degrees at my weather station in Salmon Creek. Officially, Vancouver had 77 degrees.

A weather system lingered to our south during the day and increased the cloud cover and raised the humidity into the muggy range. Could you feel it?

Sunday through Tuesday at least we will be dry and warm, maybe into the 80s, so summer weather will return. There is an old saying that summer doesn’t really begin until July 5 in the Vancouver area and July 10 or so in Puget Sound.

Eight years ago we were having a good heat wave with many high-temperature records broken around the great Northwest. Here is what I was writing about on this date in 2006. “OK, I will do what I have to do and tell you it will be cooler the next few days if you like temperatures in the 80s. No rain is in the picture unless isolated thunderstorms over the Cascades interest you. Now that we broke temperature records all over the state we can look forward and see what the new month of July will bring. I predict it will get off on a very warm start with temperatures in the 85- 90-degree range. Perhaps a hot Fourth of July? Stay tuned and keep the fans running.”
