Rewards offered for Wallowa Lake tagged trout
ENTERPRISE, Ore. — One-hundred trout with $50 reward tags will be released this spring in Oregon’s Wallowa Lake.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is conducting a biometric study to evaluate the effectiveness of stocking efforts. Biologists will release 2,050 tagged fish, including the 100 with monetary tags.
Anglers who catch a tagged fish are asked to report it to the agency.
Jeff Yanke, a state biologist, said the tagging program also will help determine if the fish move away from the stocking site before they are caught and if they survive the winter and are available the next season.
Similar research on the effectiveness of hatchery stocking is planned this winter and spring of 2015 in Hagg Lake and Lake of the Woods.
