Flooding conditions have passed, but rain will likely continue into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy rain has prompted the agency to issue another flood advisory for this morning, which was in effect from 6 to 7:45 a.m. But the heavy downpours that caused flooding last night are over, said Andy Bryant, a hydrologist.
“We don’t believe we’re going to have any more flooding issues,” Bryant said. “The flooding was more of an immediate response to heavy rain last evening. It was very localized street flooding.”
Rainy conditions should continue this morning with showers into the afternoon. Another storm will enter the area Friday, causing rainy conditions through most of the daylight hours, he said.
“We’re not expecting any huge accumulations,” Bryant said.
Rain gauges indicated that 2 to 3 inches had fallen this morning since 2 a.m. in the Hockinson and Larch Mountain area of Clark County.
The weather service said the excessive water from earlier will work its way through creeks and drainage.
Drainage areas that could still have flooding issues include Fifth Plain Creek, Shanghai Creek, Salmon Creek and Lacamas Creek.
The wet weather slowed traffic during the morning commute, with backups on I-5, but no major traffic accidents were reported. Only 3 accidents were reported during rush hour this morning.
Motorists are advised not to drive vehicles into areas where the water covers the roadway as water depths may be too great to allow safe crossing.
Rainy conditions look to continue into Saturday, with clearing on Sunday. Next week into Independence Day looks to be clear, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s, Bryant said.
