The Association of Washington Cities gave Battle Ground Mayor Shane Bowman and Councilor Adrian Cortes the group’s certificate of municipal leadership last week.

The association awards the certificate to municipal leaders who have completed more than 30 hours of training in workshops and classes about government service. The intention of the program is to help city leaders improve their skills in planning, budget management and building relationships throughout their communities.

Councilor Bill Ganley received the same honor in 2005.

Bowman and Cortes were elected to the City Council in November 2011. Their terms end in 2016.
