Student parade celebrates diversity

Ridgefield: The students of Union Ridge Elementary School celebrated diversity during their Culture Parade this month. Students from all grades researched cultures for their social studies classes, which culminated in the parade. Fourth-grade teachers Mindy Morris, Anja Felton and Nani Mack came up the idea for a downtown Ridgefield parade to feature the students’ projects, which were completed to fulfill the state educational requirement called Classroom-Based Assessment. “My favorite part of the parade was seeing all of the little faces getting so excited when they saw all the supporters on the sidewalks,” Morris said. “There is nothing more special than seeing a child’s face light up with excitement.”
