The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman who died in Sunday’s apartment fire as Lacie E. Adams, 29.

Adams fell asleep with a lit cigarette, causing a fire at an apartment complex in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood, according to Vancouver fire officials. The medical examiner’s office determined Adams died of smoke inhalation.

The blaze at the Courtyard Village Apartments, 2600 T St., was first reported at 10:22 a.m. Arriving firefighters found flames in a second-floor unit of a two-story apartment building and were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to any other apartments, according to officials.

The fire was ruled an accident.

Sara Archer, a family friend of Adams, said Adams had been dealing with some personal problems, but she always kept her head up. The two worked together at Elite Fundraising, which coordinates fundraisers for churches, schools and other organizations.

“Even in her saddest moments, she put a smile on her face,” Archer said. “It’s sad. She was so young. She had so much life ahead of her.”
