Retirement celebration set for Dale Croswell

There will be a retirement celebration for Camas High School teacher Dale Croswell.

“Cros,” as he is known, has taught at CHS for 40 years.

The celebration will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29 at the CHS north commons, 26900 S.E. 15th St. All are invited.

Rabin earns degree from Boston University

Boston University awarded academic degrees to 6,321 students in May 2014. Among the graduates was Zachary H. Rabin of Camas, who received a opera institute degree in voice performance.

Founded in 1839, Boston University is an internationally recognized institution of higher education and research.

BU offers students more than 250 programs of study in science and engineering, social science and humanities, health science, the arts, and other professional disciplines, along with a number of multi-disciplinary centers and institutes.

Young Women of Achievement named

Four young women from area high schools were each awarded $1,500 scholarships from YWCA Clark County on June 1.

Cailyn Grindy, Lindsay Weinberg, Reem Sabha and Samantha Adams “consistently demonstrated strong leadership qualities in alignment with YWCA values throughout the application and interview process,” according to a press release.

Grindy, a student at Camas High School, was awarded the Soroptimist International of Southwest Washington Scholarship. Lindsay Weinberg, also from CHS, received the Soroptimist International of Vancouver Scholarship. Reem Sabha from Mountain View High School received the Donna Roberge Scholarship and Samantha Adams from La Center High School received the Friends of the YWCA Young Women of Achievement Scholarship.

Guest speakers were Eveling Cabello Ramirez and Alishia Topper.

Students earn degrees from George Fox University

A school-record 725 students were awarded degrees at commencement ceremonies held at George Fox University May 1 to 3.

The following Camas students earned degrees: Golf Brooks, bachelor of arts in international studies; Andrew Tweet, bachelor of science in engineering; and Erin Mooers, master of arts in teaching.

The Newberg, Ore., school hosted two undergraduate commencement events for 435 graduates on Saturday, May 3, and hosted separate departmental ceremonies for the 290 graduating from its graduate and seminary programs.

Alumnus Richard Foster, author of ‘Celebration of Discipline,’ returned to campus to serve as undergraduate commencement speaker.
