Police are looking for two people who they say assaulted a 64-year-old man Monday night in Esther Short Park.
The incident was reported at 8:45 p.m. near the downtown Vancouver park.
Police say the man was walking through the park when he was approached by a female who asked him for money. When he replied that he didn’t have any money, the female made an ethnic slur and hit him in the head with a skateboard, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
As the victim called 911, a male approached and punched him in the head and face.
The victim was transported to a local hospital. His identity is not being released by police.
A surveillance camera in the area captured images of the male suspect. He has a short Mohawk haircut, and was seen wearing black shorts with a dark shirt that was open in the front with a lighter-colored T-shirt underneath. He was also wearing a baseball cap that fell off during the fight. The female suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt or hoodie, glasses and shorts.
Anyone with information about either suspect is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department’s tip line at 360-487-7399.
